Brushing Routine

Brush 3-4 times per week with a pin brush and undercoat rake to maintain their beautiful, golden-red double coat. The outer coat is long and harsh while the undercoat is short, soft, and dense. Brush with the grain of the coat to maintain the natural stand-off quality. Use a metal comb through the neck ruff and rear pants.

Bathing Tips

Bathe every 8-10 weeks with a gentle shampoo that preserves the coat's natural red-gold color. Avoid whitening or brightening shampoos that can alter the distinctive color. Use a light conditioner on the feathering only. Blow dry with a high-velocity dryer while brushing to achieve the proper full, standing coat.

Seasonal Care

Heavy seasonal shedding occurs twice a year, with a dramatic undercoat blow in spring that requires daily raking for 2-3 weeks. The summer coat is thinner but maintains the golden color. Winter coat grows in at its fullest and most lustrous. Never shave this breed as the double coat provides essential temperature regulation.
