Brushing Routine

Brush 2-3 times weekly with a slicker brush and stripping comb to maintain the dense, wiry, golden-rust coat. Hand-strip every 8-10 weeks to preserve the correct harsh texture. The Wirehaired Vizsla has a more prominent beard and eyebrows than the smooth Vizsla, which need daily combing to prevent matting.

Bathing Tips

Bathe every 5-7 weeks with a texturizing shampoo. Their wire coat is naturally dirt-repellent and rarely develops odor. Avoid conditioners that soften the harsh coat. A color-enhancing shampoo in warm golden-rust tones helps maintain the breed's distinctive rich color.

Seasonal Care

Wirehaired Vizslas shed their undercoat in spring and fall, requiring more frequent brushing during transitions. In Houston summers, the wire coat provides sun protection -- never shave it. Keep the coat stripped to a working length for heat management. These active dogs need extra hydration during summer grooming.
