Brushing Routine

Brush daily with a pin brush and metal comb to maintain their long, thick, shaggy double coat. The outer coat is crisp and slightly wavy while the undercoat is soft and dense. Use thorough line brushing technique from the skin outward to prevent hidden mats. Pay special attention to behind the ears, under the armpits, in the groin, and on the leg furnishings.

Bathing Tips

Bathe every 3-4 weeks with a moisturizing shampoo followed by a light detangling conditioner. Always detangle the coat completely before wetting as water tightens existing mats. Blow dry with a high-velocity dryer while brushing through each section to prevent mat formation during drying.

The PON sheds minimally as dead hair gets trapped in the coat rather than falling free, which contributes to matting. Regular daily brushing removes this trapped hair. Summer grooming may involve a shorter utility clip for comfort and easier maintenance. Winter coat grows in thick and requires maximum grooming effort.
