Brushing Routine

Brush the Lowchen's long, wavy coat 3-4 times weekly with a pin brush and medium-tooth comb. The silky, moderately dense coat does not have an undercoat, making it easier to manage than double-coated breeds. For dogs in the traditional lion clip, brush the long sections thoroughly while keeping the clipped areas tidy. Focus on the chest, ear fringes, and leg feathering.

Bathing Tips

Bathe every 3-4 weeks with a moisturizing shampoo for silky coats. The single coat responds well to a light rinse-out conditioner. In the lion clip, wash clipped areas separately with attention to skin health. Blow-dry on medium heat while brushing straight to enhance the flowing coat texture.

Common Issues

• Matting in the longer sections of the lion clip
• Clipper irritation on shaved areas for lion-clipped dogs
• Ear hair tangles and ear canal moisture
• Sun exposure on clipped skin sections
• Coat softness loss from over-bathing

Extend Your Grooming Results

Use a silk protein spray on the long portions of the coat to keep them smooth and tangle-resistant. For lion-clipped areas, apply a soothing balm after clipping to prevent irritation. A leave-in conditioner on the mane and tail plume maintains the flowing appearance between grooms.

Seasonal Care

The single coat sheds minimally year-round. In summer, dogs in lion clips need pet-safe sunscreen on clipped areas. In winter, the single coat provides limited insulation; sweaters or coats recommended for outdoor time. The coat may become drier in heated indoor environments during winter.
