Brushing Routine

Brush once a week with a soft rubber curry brush or grooming mitt to remove loose hair and stimulate the skin. A soft bristle brush works well for finishing and distributing natural oils. Despite the short coat, Frenchies shed more than most people expect.

Bathing Tips

Bathe every 4-6 weeks using a gentle, hypoallergenic or oatmeal-based shampoo. French Bulldogs are prone to skin sensitivities, so avoid harsh products. Use lukewarm water and dry thoroughly, paying special attention to getting between all skin folds completely dry to prevent bacterial and yeast infections.

Common Issues

• Skin fold dermatitis in facial wrinkles, tail pocket, and body folds
• Allergic skin reactions causing itching and redness
• Ear infections from narrow, bat-shaped ear canals
• Tear staining below the eyes
• Tail pocket infection if not cleaned regularly

Extend Your Grooming Results

Clean facial folds daily with an unscented pet wipe or damp cloth, then dry completely. Apply a thin layer of nose and wrinkle balm to prevent irritation. Check and clean the tail pocket 2-3 times per week. After walks in hot weather, wipe down the entire body to remove allergens and sweat.

Seasonal Care

Frenchies shed moderately year-round with a slight increase in spring. In Houston summers, skin issues increase due to heat and humidity. Keep folds extra dry, limit outdoor time in peak heat, and watch for heat exhaustion signs. In winter, their thin coat provides little insulation, and dry indoor air can worsen skin dryness.

Maintenance Schedule

Professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. Weekly brushing at home. Daily facial fold cleaning. Tail pocket cleaning 2-3 times weekly. Ear cleaning weekly. Nail trims every 2-3 weeks.
