Brushing Routine

Brush daily with a pin brush and fine-toothed comb. Their soft, fluffy coat ranges from slightly wavy to curly and mats very easily due to the cotton-candy-like texture. Use a light detangling spray before every session. Brush gently in sections -- their small size means the coat is fine and breaks easily with aggressive brushing.

Bathing Tips

Bathe every 2-3 weeks with a gentle, whitening or brightening shampoo for lighter colors, or a moisturizing formula for darker coats. Use a lightweight conditioner that does not weigh down their fluffy coat. Blow-dry on low heat, using a slicker brush to fluff the coat. Their small size makes home bathing manageable.

Common Issues

• Severe tear staining, especially in white and light-colored dogs
• Fine coat mats rapidly, particularly around ears and legs
• Dental disease is extremely common and affects coat health

Extend Your Grooming Results

Tear stain management is often the biggest daily grooming task -- clean under eyes twice daily with a tear stain remover pad. Apply cornstarch under the eyes to absorb moisture and prevent staining. Keep the facial hair trimmed to a functional length. A topknot or bow keeps hair out of the eyes between grooms.

Seasonal Care

Minimal shedding year-round due to the Poodle influence. Houston humidity can make their fluffy coat droop and mat faster. Use a volumizing finishing spray after grooming. No significant seasonal coat changes. Their small size and light coat make them comfortable in most Houston weather with appropriate clothing in cooler months.

Maintenance Schedule
