Brushing Routine

Corgipoos (Corgi x Poodle) can have coats ranging from the Corgi's thick, weather-resistant double coat to the Poodle's curly coat, with many having a medium-length wavy texture. Brush every other day at minimum with a slicker brush, increasing to daily during shedding seasons. For double-coated Corgipoos, an undercoat rake is essential to remove loose undercoat without damaging the topcoat. The dense coat around the Corgi-like rump and thighs needs thorough attention.

Bathing Tips

Bathe every 4-6 weeks with a moisturizing shampoo. Double-coated Corgipoos benefit from a deshedding shampoo and conditioner system during heavy shedding periods. Ensure thorough rinsing as the dense coat traps shampoo residue easily. Blow-dry completely, working from the skin outward, as the dense undercoat holds moisture that can cause skin problems if left damp.

Common Issues

• Heavy shedding in double-coated individuals, particularly around the hindquarters
• Matting in the chest and behind the ears in curlier-coated Corgipoos
• Difficulty reaching the belly and sanitary areas due to the low-to-ground Corgi body type
• Dirt and debris accumulation on the low-hanging belly coat
• Skin irritation from grass and ground contact due to short leg structure

Extend Your Grooming Results

Keep the belly coat trimmed shorter to reduce debris collection from ground contact. Use a belly band or light shirt during muddy outdoor sessions to protect the coat. Apply a detangling spray before brushing to reduce stress on the coat. Regular sanitary trims every 2-3 weeks prevent hygiene issues in the low-slung body areas. Wipe the belly and legs with grooming wipes after walks.

Seasonal Care

Corgipoos with Corgi-dominant coats blow their undercoat heavily twice a year in spring and fall, requiring daily deshedding with an undercoat rake during these 4-6 week periods. In summer, keep the belly and sanitary areas trimmed but do not shave double-coated Corgipoos. Their low body means they pick up more ground-level heat, so ensure the coat is not overly dense. Winter coats fill in nicely but need consistent brushing to prevent felting.

Maintenance Schedule

Professional grooming every 5-7 weeks. Brushing every other day minimum, daily during shedding seasons. Belly wipe-downs after outdoor play. Ear cleaning weekly. Nail trims every 3-4 weeks (critical for this short-legged breed). Sanitary trims every 2-3 weeks.
