For smooth-coat Chihuahuas, brush once a week with a soft bristle brush or rubber grooming mitt. For long-coat Chihuahuas, brush 2-3 times per week with a pin brush, paying attention to the ear feathering, chest ruff, and tail plume where tangles form. A fine-toothed comb catches small knots in the long coat.

Bathing Tips

Bathe every 4-6 weeks using a gentle, tearless shampoo formulated for small breeds. Chihuahuas chill easily, so use warm water and dry quickly and thoroughly. A low-heat dryer works well. For long coats, apply a lightweight conditioner to prevent tangling. Protect the ears from water entry during bathing.
